Whether you’re a seasoned hiker, a photography enthusiast, or someone simply looking to enjoy the beauty of mother earth, here are the top spots to witness wildflowers in full bloom this weekend.

1. Anza-Borrego Desert State Park

It’s about 85 miles northeast of San Diego, Anza-Borrego is California’s largest state park and a haven for wildflower enthusiasts. This year, thanks to recent rains, areas like Henderson Canyon Road are showcasing vibrant displays of sand verbena, desert sunflowers, and desert primrose. The bloom is expected to continue through mid-May, but it’s best to visit soon as the desert heat can quickly diminish the flowers.

Pro Tip: Start your journey early in the morning to avoid the heat and catch the flowers at their freshest.

2. Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve

Situated in northern Los Angeles County, this reserve is renowned for its rolling hills blanketed with California poppies. While the 2025 bloom is more modest compared to previous years, visitors can still enjoy patches of orange poppies interspersed with other wildflowers like desert pincushion and blue lupine . The reserve offers 7 miles of trails, including a paved section for wheelchair access.
